Mortgage deed from Scott to Wooten [for] 4 Negroes, 7 February 1828.

Indenture detailing the sale of four named slaves by Reuben Scott to Lemuel Wootten for $5 as collateral against a promissory note for $1440.62¹/₂ owed by Scott to James Rindar (or Pindar), which was secured by Wootten. With the endorsement of Lewis S. Brown, J.P. noting that Lemuel Wooton had come before him on 15 April 1828 asking for help in securing both the principal and interest on the promissory note.
